Just in time for the gift-giving season, UFCU announced today that it has donated $10,000 each to Pearland Independent School District and Alvin Independent School District to help families pay outstanding student lunch balances. This $20,000 investment reflects UFCU’s commitment to empowering communities and supporting student success as the credit union expands its footprint in the Greater Houston area.

UFCU opened its newest branch in the Pearland market in November. As a new member of the community, this contribution helps remove a financial barrier that can interfere with students’ day-to-day experiences, while also enabling school administrators to redirect attention toward academic outcomes and family-support initiatives.

“By supporting students and families in this way, we are directly investing in the well-being of students and their families,” said Michael Crowl, UFCU President and CEO. “We’re honored to partner with Pearland ISD and Alvin ISD and look forward to building lasting relationships across Greater Houston as we continue to grow.”

Studies consistently show that a reliable midday meal improves student attendance, behavior, and academic performance. Ensuring that children have access to the food they need is one of the most effective ways to support student success both inside and outside the classroom. This donation will benefit two ISDs that collectively serve more than 50,000 students and their families.

“We are grateful for UFCU’s generosity and its meaningful impact on our students,” said Carol Nelson, Superintendent of Alvin ISD. “Clearing outstanding meal balances lets families refocus on what matters most and empowers our district to advance student-centered priorities.”

“This contribution from UFCU provides immediate relief for families and reinforces the district’s commitment to creating a supportive learning environment,” said Dr. Larry Berger, Superintendent for Pearland ISD. “When community partners invest in students’ well-being, it drives stronger outcomes and keeps our educators focused on academic achievement.”

As UFCU continues to integrate into the Pearland community, it looks forward to building more strategic partnerships that advance education and financial empowerment. UFCU Pearland, located at 2940 Broadway Bend Drive, Pearland, TX 77584, offers an award-winning suite of services, including financial counseling, competitive mortgage and auto loan options, and 24/7 ATM access.
