Ms. Celia Clay

Welcome! My name is Ms. Clay and 2018 - 2019 is my tenth (10th) year teaching at Pearland High School (PHS)!

At PHS, I teach in the Career and Technology Education (CTE) Department in the Allied Health Sciences pathway. During 2018 - 2019,  I am teaching the following courses: Health Science Theory with Clinical Rotations, Health Science Theory, World Health Research and Medical Terminology.

During my teaching career, I have had the pleasure to teach high school, middle school, community college/ adult high school, university undergraduate and graduate students, teachers and adult medical, Public Health and Emergency Management professional students!! In addition to a teaching career, I spent twenty-four years in a full-time civilian career as an Infectious Diseases Surveillance Epidemiologist at the  local, state and national levels.

As a native Texan, I attended Houston's University of St. Thomas for my undergraduate B. A. degree in Secondary Education with teaching fields in Biology and English. Following my B.A., I fulfilled a childhood dream and worked as a medical volunteer for a year in Rwanda, Africa. I returned to the USA and completed a Masters Degree in Public Health (foci: Community Health and Epidemiology) through the University of Texas School of Public Health. I also have a national certification, through the Texas A&M system as a Certified Training Professional (CTP) with skills in adult training as well as Curriculum and Instruction design.

Following the MPH graduate degree, I received a direct commission into reserve military service as a Public Health Officer. I completed both Reserve Medical Officer School  and Public Health Officer graduate training (US Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine; foci: Aerospace Medicine/ Occupational Medicine and Infectious Diseases). Military certifications included Medical Readiness Officer and (Reserve) Infection Control certifications.

To date, I have completed multiple post-graduate courses through the military and civilian pathways. During summer 2017, PHS colleagues and I completed the MD Anderson AHEARN program certification from the MD Anderson School of Health Professions in the nearby Texas Medical Center (TMC).
