Pearland ISD awarded Inaugural ‘District of Distinction’ Award from Texas Art Education Association
Pearland Independent School District recently received the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) 2020 District of Distinction Award in recognition of outstanding leadership for promoting the arts within the district and community.
More than 1,000 districts were eligible to apply for the 2020 award and only 42 districts met the high standard and will receive be honored. Each district submitted documentation that they had met the rubric over the 2019-20 school year.
As a part of the evaluation process, TAEA identified districts that are actively participating in areas such as State Visual Arts Scholastic (VASE) and Junior VASE as a few examples. The organization also took into consideration field experiences, community service and community exhibitions to name a few as part of the rigorous award rubric.
“We are thrilled to be named a District of Distinction for the second consecutive year. TAEA has done a phenomenal job of setting rigorous criteria and standards, that are student and teacher-centered, to promote and develop art education,” Tom Bell, Pearland ISD Director of Fine Arts, said. “Once again, our art teachers and students welcomed the opportunity to show the state the remarkable things that are happening in Pearland ISD. I am so grateful for every school, art teacher and art student for doing their part to earn this achievement.”
Pearland ISD will be honored at the TAEA Fall Virtual Conference being held Nov. 21-22.
