Seventeen students to display art at Houston Rodeo

Marissa Devivar DHS - SPECIAL MERIT        Seventeen Pearland Independent School District artists will display their art in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Hayloft Gallery this March.

       These students won best of show, gold medal and special merit for their Western-themed art during rodeo art judging Jan. 15.

Best of Show:

  • Jayce Bugarin, Magnolia – Yellow Cacti
  • Madi Lwin, PJH West – Yipee!
  • Faith Victoria Ni, DHS – Holy Cow
  • Skyla Thalji, PHS – Dreamer

Gold Medal:

  • Kaydence Cueto, Magnolia – Rosebelle
  • Sophia Fu, DHS – Parade in the City
  • Chelsea Hodge, DHS – Man’s Best Friend
  • Lauren Oishi, Berry Miller JH – Unspoken Understanding

Special Merit:

  • Saada Bower, PHS – After a Day
  • Sarah Buchanan, DHS – Hog Heaven
  • Marissa Devivar, DHS – Dairy or the Prairie
  • Sophia Lin, DHS – A Sleeping Champ
  • Vidya Muthupillai, DHS – Western Cowgirl

  • Chelsea Tran, PHS – 8 Second Rush

  • Katelyn Yacuk, Turner CCHS – Meeting of the Minds

       Established in 1964, the rodeo’s School Art Program draws more than 300,000 Western-themed entries by pre-K through 12th-grade students each year. During the show, approximately 60 pieces of art selected by judges are auctioned for student awards and the rodeo’s educational fund.
