Hayes named Director of Safe and Secure Schools

Pearland Independent School District welcomes Brad Hayes as its Director of Safe and Secure Schools.

Hayes is no stranger to Pearland ISD where he has served as Alexander Middle School principal since 2017 and was a Pearland HS science teacher from 2004-07. He began his career in education in Galveston ISD as a science teacher in 2002. Hayes also held several administrative positions in Cleveland and Clear Creek ISDs.

Hayes has had a passion for school safety since he began his education career 18 years ago.

“Over my career, I’ve seen changes in student needs. I want to ensure that we are doing everything we can to support the mental wellbeing of our students and promote the physical safety of all our students and staff by ensuring that all Pearland ISD facilities are safe and inviting.”

Pearland ISD has implemented security upgrades over the past several years so its facilities are the safest they have ever been.

“I look forward to continuing this process by engaging in ongoing facility audits and open lines of communication between schools and our department to make sure that all safety concerns are addressed.”

Hayes sees his role as not only ensuring the physical safety of students, but also as helping promote their mental wellbeing and plans to collaborate with the counseling department to address the mental health needs of the district’s students.

“I believe that when students feel safe, it creates an environment conducive to learning. When students do not feel safe at school, this creates a barrier to learning. I want to ensure that we are doing everything we can to support the mental wellbeing of our students and promote the physical safety of all our students and staff by ensuring that all Pearland ISD facilities are safe and inviting.”
