At Home, Online Proctored Exams Now Available for CBE for grades 3-12.

Please continue to watch this website for guidance on the summer CBE and Exam for acceleration testing windows.  Pearland ISD is currently waiting for state health guidelines for students reentering the building during Covid-19.  We are unable to schedule in person Credit by Examinations at this time. 

Students Who Previously Registered to take a CBE in Pearland ISD

The $25 registration fee will be refunded to ALL students who registered to take a credit by exam for kindergarten acceleration and grades 1-12 during the months of June and July 2020 in Pearland ISD.  Students in grades 3-12 now may register and take the CBE online through the University of Texas High School.  All information is below.  Students in K-2 must take the exams in person.  Pearland ISD is unable to schedule and administer these exams currently due to Covid-19 restrictions on building entry. 

K-2 Exams Update

K-2 exams including kindergarten acceleration are not available at this time due to restrictions on students entering the building under Covid-19 restrictions.  Please continue to check the website for updates.  Every attempt will be made to offer these exams in person before the first day of school following state guidelines for student safety.

3rd – 12th Grade Exams Update

UTHS is now offering online proctoring of credit by exams for students in grades 3-12 at home using the Proctorio service which enables the student to take a credit by exam at home.  Please read the guide for students. 

  • Students who wish to take a credit by examination for course credit should download and complete the Individual Enrollment Form for Grades 3-12.
  • The cost for a high school semester long exam is $70 and is appropriate for credit recovery for a high school student who failed the fall semester of a course.
  • The cost for a year-long exam for 3rd – 8th grade and high school for acceleration by credit by exam is $125 per course.  This includes both the exam fee and the online proctoring fee. 
  • Some exams require additional outside reading or requirements.  Please review the study guide posted on the UT website to review the requirements for the exam you wish to take.  A link is provided at the bottom of this page.
  • Students in grades 3 – 8 who are seeking to move to the next grade level should take the year-long English, Math, Science, and Social Studies exams (4 exams at a total cost of $500) and make a score of 80 or better on each exam to be considered a candidate for grade level acceleration. 
  • Students in 6-8 who wish to accelerate in math only need to take the appropriate math exam.  Please consult with your counselor before enrolling. 

Technical Information and Requirements

  • Proctorio is a Google Chrome plug-in so Google Chrome is required. 
  • Webcam
  • Microphone
  • Desktops and Laptops are permitted. 
  • Phones, iPad, and mobile devices are not allowed. 
  • Any technical difficulties should be reported to UT proctoring.

 

Will I be required to show a photo ID to take the exam? 

Yes.

A student may use their school ID, driver’s license, or valid passport with photo.  During the COVID-19 closures, if a student does not have access to personal photo ID, a parent/guardian may present their photo ID and verify the student’s identity.

 

How will I access the exam? 

  • UTHS recommends students to log in at least a week prior to the testing date. Student must complete all set-up tasks and modules prior to taking their exam.
  • Students will receive an email with access information, including their UT EID, which will be their username for the exam login to Canvas, which is the website that houses the Proctorio exam. The student will follow instructions to reset their password if they’re not a current UTHS student.
  • Once the student is logged into the testing system, s/he must complete several online modules: Installing Proctorio, Using Proctorio, Preparing Your Testing Space, Acknowledgement of Testing Environment Rules, and Allowed Materials. 

 

Preparing the for Exam

  • Once the student is logged into the testing system, s/he must complete several online modules: Installing Proctorio, Using Proctorio, Preparing Your Testing Space, Acknowledgement of Testing Environment Rules, and Allowed Materials.       Students may view this Student Demo video, which provides important information about using Proctorio, including the in-quiz tools, live chat, exam timer, and exam submission.
  • Students can access the course study guides on the UTHS website.

 

Time Frame

  • The exams will last up to 3 hours (180 minutes). Students will have an extra 20 minutes (total of 200 minutes) in case they have any issues, such as needing to restart their computer.
  • CBEs expire 60 days after enrollment.
  • You may take it any time within the 60-day period.

 

How many times can I access my exam?

Once.     

You may access the pre-exam preparation modules (including installation of Proctorio, and a review of rules) as many times as needed before you begin the actual exam.

PE 1B CBEs

PE 1B credit by exams are unavailable during the shelter-in-place requirements, since these exams require participation in activities such as bowling, golf, racquetball. PE 1A Foundations of Fitness is still available.
