Junior high students write for right society

Six Pearland Independent School District students qualified as school finalists in this year’s “Do the Write Thing” Challenge in Houston/Harris County.

Numbering among the youth anti-violence program school finalists are Pearland Junior High East’s Danny Dawson and Daisy Becerril, Pearland Junior High South’s Wyatt Jackson and Allison Sayre and Pearland Junior High West’s Laila Scott and Wesley Koonce.

Through the challenge, students examine the causes of violence and react in writing, explaining what they think should be done to build a healthy society. Students also commit to make a difference personally through rational thinking and behavior.

This year, nearly 12,000 students from Houston-area school districts wrote about ending the chain of violence.

School finalists, their parents, teachers, principals and superintendents will be honored at a Do the Write Thing Challenge recognition ceremony at NRG Arena on May 19.

The “Do the Write Thing” Challenge is affiliated with the National Campaign to Stop Violence.
