Pearland ISD students represent the district at VASE art competition

Pearland Independent School District was recently represented at both the junior and high school levels of the Visual Arts Scholastic Event competition held by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA). Junior VASE participants include sixth, seventh and eighth graders.

Jacob Madrigal, from Turner College and Career High School, and An Troung, William Sinacori and Heaven Weathersby from Dawson High School were awarded gold medals for their artwork at the state level of the competition, after receiving the top score at the regional event. State VASE is the culminating event of the school year for Texas high school art students and teachers. Turner’s art teacher is Mark Villalpando and DHS’s are Cydney White and Teri Zuteck.

At the junior level, a total of 101 students from Berry Miller Junior High, Pearland Junior High South, East and West, Rogers, Alexander, Jamison and Sablatura middle schools were awarded gold medals, with 12 students securing platinum medals.
