Four Pearland ISD artists medal at State VASE

VASE        Four Pearland Independent School District students medaled at the State Visual Arts Scholastic Event April 26-27 in San Marcos. Advancement to State VASE is the highest level of achievement in visual art in Texas.

After receiving the top score at the regional event, Dawson High School’s Jamie Lincoln (with “Explosion”), Helen Wang (with “Delicate” and” Rift”) and Alyssa Cripps (with “Unfinished: Artist Battling Depression”) and Pearland High School’s Faith Derise (with “A Fish ous Cycle”) received Rating IV-Exemplary to earn state medallions. DHS’s Jamie Lincoln’s artwork also received the Gold Seal Award and it will be part of the Gold Seal Exhibit for the next seven months.

The Pearland HS art teacher is Robert Stiles and the Dawson HS art teacher is Teri Zuteck.

State VASE is the culminating event of the school year for Texas art students and teachers.

Throughout the different competition levels, professional Texas Art Education Association jurors interview students and judge their pieces.

During the state event, students have the opportunity to participate in professional workshops, lectures, demonstrations and sketching exercises.

Established in 1994, VASE began with just over 400 student art entries and has since expanded to approximately 31,400 entries in regional events statewide. Only about 2,000 advance to state.
