Pearland High School’s 2019 graduate Arif Nasimudheen set new records for the school during the DECA International Career Development Conference recently held in Florida. PHS has been participating in in the DECA program for the past 45 years.
During his sophomore, junior and senior years, Nasimudheen received a total of 17 awards, including this years’ second place overall in International Financial Consulting as well as “Highest Finance Test Score”.
“A big part of finding success in DECA for me was finding something I enjoyed. By simply enjoying what I did, DECA didn’t feel like a burden I had to manage, but instead something I had the privilege to participate, making it more enjoyable and easier for me to excel in,” Nasimudheen said.
Comprising more than 3,500 high school chapters, DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. The program also provides students with competitions in the fields of finance, management and entrepreneurship, simulating real-life business scenarios and testing students’ academic understanding and skills development.
“I attribute Arif's success to his ability to set high goals for himself each year and do whatever it takes to achieve those goals,” Ronald Meekes, PHS DECA sponsor said. “He is a great communicator whether he is working with students, teachers or business professionals.”
Nasimudheen received a scholarship from the University of Texas in Dallas where he’ll study Computer Science and Business.
