Fifteen Pearland ISD students advance in Houston Rodeo art competition

special merit        Fifteen Pearland Independent School District artists were recently selected to advance in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo art program competition. Their artwork is moving on to the next round of judging known as Grand Prix, in which 72 pieces of art will be chosen by judges to be auctioned for student awards and the rodeo’s educational fund.

       These students won best of show, gold medal and special merit for their Western-themed art during rodeo art judging held on Jan. 29:

       Best of Show:

  • Sophia Fu, Dawson High School – A Moment in Time
  • Skyla Thalji, Pearland High School – Back in my Day
  • Sion Joo, Berry Miller Junior High – The Texas Grin of Gold
  • Jake Gangloff, Shadycrest Elementary – Cow-n-Barn

       Gold Medal:

  • Marissa Devivar, DHS – 8 Seconds of Fame
  • Gracin Nguyen, DHS – Heavy is the Hand that Carries the Badge              
  • Jacqueline Mandola, Pearland High School – An Above Snake Ambush
  • Katherine Xie, Berry Miller Junior High – Life on the Farm
  • Kinsleigh Miller, CJ Harris Elementary – Off to the Rodeo

        Special Merit:

  • Jamie Lincoln, DHS – Final Push             
  • Yuan Jia Wang, DHS – Piercing Wisdom              
  • Wendy Xie, DHS – Afternoon Draw             
  • Faith Victoria Ni, DHS – Working the Clove Hitch             
  • Brice Rudis, DHS – Blackjack           
  • Avery Gilman, DHS – Tame and Tranquil
