Five students selected as “Gold Leaf” from College Board

Five Pearland ISD students recently received the College Board SAT Practice Student Ambassadors “Gold Leaf” honor.

Turner College & Career High School seniors Cira Frias, Roberta Minter, Matthew Lair and Jacob Phillips and Pearland High School junior Riya Patel received this honor for going above and beyond for the success of the district’s Official SAT Practice Student Ambassador second-year pilot program.

The focus of this program is to increase student participation and practice for the SAT exam using Khan Academy. This involved organizing campus/district events which allow student-to-student study groups to prepare for the exam.

Pearland ISD student ambassadors organized and executed a mock SAT exam prior to SAT school day. They have also presented at the College Board southwest regional forum, a Dream Deferred and Texas Association for College Admission Counseling promoting different SAT study resources.
