Eighteen Pearland Independent School District students have been named scholars in the 2021 National Recognition Programs, including the Hispanic, African American and Indigenous Recognition Programs.

      The College Board National Recognition Programs create pathways to college for students from underrepresented communities by awarding them academic honors and connecting them with universities across the country.

      Students recognized as scholars scored in the top 2.5% of the PSAT/ National Merit Scholarship Program and identified as African American, Hispanic American or Latinx or Indigenous.

      Eligibility criteria for recognition as a scholar include taking the PSAT/NMSQT test in October of their junior year, achieving the minimum requested PSAT/NMSQT score for their region, earning a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher by the middle of their junior year and identifying as African American, Hispanic or Latinx and/or Indigenous.

      NHRP recognizes nearly 7,000 students every year from a pool of more than 250,000 students who took the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test during their junior year and identified themselves as African American, Hispanic American or Latinx or Indigenous.

      The list of recognized students was distributed to four-year postsecondary institutions giving students an opportunity to hear from colleges interested in prospective students of Hispanic/Latinx, African American and/or Indigenous heritage.
