DHS, TCCHS students will take office in American Legion programs

2016 American Legion representatives Five Pearland ISD students will hold political offices this June as they serve as delegates for American Legion Boys and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State programs.

Representatives this year include Dawson High School’s Mikael Floyd, John Ketterer and Hannah Michael and Turner College and Career High School’s Juan Manuel De La Garza and Caithryn Grace.

High school staff nominated the students for their leadership, character, citizenship and academic achievements.

During the programs in Austin and Seguin, students experience the ins and outs of American politics by participating in mock governments.

Participants elect their peers to different offices and organize legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement groups and other government bodies.

The program seeks to give students a better understanding of America’s legacy of freedom and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
