Business Office recognized for excellence in financial reporting
Pearland Independent School District’s Business Office recently received the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. The district was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada and the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International.
The attainment of the Certificate of Excellence from both organizations reflects a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. This is the first year that Pearland ISD has been awarded these notable achievements.
“Preparing a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report demonstrates the district’s transparency to the community and is a testament to the staff’s dedication and continued pursuit of excellence,” said Jorgannie Carter, Pearland ISD’s Chief Financial Officer. “The Annual Financial Report Summary presents the district’s finances in a simple format that all citizens can understand and evaluate. Receiving the award for Popular Annual Financial Reporting is a tribute to the undertaking by the business office staff to ensure every citizen understands the District’s financial position,” she adds.
In addition, the District received the award for Popular Annual Financial Reporting from GFOA for the preparation of its first Annual Financial Report Summary, which extracts information from the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and presents it in a way that is accessible and easily understandable by the general public and other interested parties without a background in public finance.
“Our new CFO Jorgannie Carter has continued the pattern of great leadership historically present in our Business Office. This newest recognition is more evidence of acumen and conscientiousness by the entire Business Office Department. We’re very proud of them,” said Pearland ISD Superintendent, Dr. John Kelly.
These awards are acknowledgments of the District’s ongoing efforts to achieve excellence in financial reporting and increase financial transparency.
