Community invited to Join In and support youth mental health
Addressing student crises remains crucial to the well-being of students and to the educational mission of Pearland ISD. The district continues to focus on issues affecting students from personal/family crises to suicidal thoughts, now highlighting substance abuse prevention.
Pearland ISD’s second “Join In…Inspired, Informed, Involved” event will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 26, from 5-7 p.m. at the Virgil Gant Education Support Center, 1928 N. Main, Pearland, TX 77581.
An hour-long session will be presented by Dr. John J. O’Neill, Clinical Director at The Menninger Clinic, and will provide parents and students with knowledge to: understand how substance abuse relates to youth mental health, identify common substances used by adolescents and assist with early identification and treatment of potential problems. Session times are 5:15-6 p.m. and 6:15-7 p.m.
Additionally, throughout the event attendees will have the opportunity to interact with local mental health agencies through a Carousel of Resources.

Pearland ISD encourages parents to join in campus and district efforts by attending meetings, trainings and events hosted by schools and district throughout the year, as a combined effort to help students understand they are not alone.
