Nine Pearland ISD students compete at DECA International, two place in the Top 10
Nine Pearland Independent School District students put their college and career skills to the test during the DECA International Career Development Conference April 27-30 in Florida.
Pearland High School’s Arif Nasimudheen was awarded second place overall in International Financial Consulting and also received the “Highest Finance Test Score” award. Dawson High School’s Ashwin Murali placed in the top 10 finalists in Accounting Applications Series.
Other state champion students who competed at the event include DHS’s Aayush Dave (Stock Market Game Event), Cindy Li (Principles of Finance), Diana Thai (Principles of Hospitality and Tourism) and Shikha Lakhi (Start Up Business Plan -Team #1), and PHS’s Kayla Galkowski (Hospitality & Tourism Professional Selling), Lauren Adams (Marketing Communication) and Isaiah Trevino, who received a medal for the top Score in “Management” in the Marketing Communication event.
More than 20,500 high school students, teachers, business professionals and alumni gathered for the annual DECA International Career Development Conference, which included competitions in marketing, management, hospitality, finance and entrepreneurship as well as leadership academies and business networking.
Members qualify to compete internationally based on superior performance at the district and state association level. During the event, more than 1,000 business professionals serve as judges, evaluating students’ mastery of concepts.

Comprising more than 3,500 high school chapters, DECA provides students with competitions that simulate real-life business scenarios and test students’ academic understanding and skills development.
