Berry Miller, PJH West bands advance to state for the second consecutive time
The top bands from Berry Miller Junior High and Pearland Junior High West recently advanced to the state level of the Texas Music Educators Association Honor Band Contest, for the second consecutive time.
Bands were required to submit their best recordings from the UIL concert season. BMJH and PJH West bands advanced from region to area on June 6 and from area to state on June 20.
The two bands competed in the largest, and what is considered the most competitive, UIL classification during each round of competition.
BMJH and PJH West are among 16 bands from across the state that will compete for the state honor band title on July 25 during the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention. The state winner will perform at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio in February.
“For any district to have a band advance to the top 16 in the state is a tremendous honor. For our district to have two junior high bands advance for the second straight time, puts us in very elite company,” Pearland ISD Director of Fine Arts Tom Bell said. “The students pick up on the example of commitment and work ethic from their band directors and give their best effort, day in and day out.”
