Pearland ISD trustees change board timing and meeting agenda order

During the Feb. 11 regular meeting, the Pearland ISD Board of Trustees decided to change the timing and order of agenda items for regular board meetings.

After discussing a proposal from board president Charles Gooden Jr., trustees made the following changes to regular meetings:

  • 5 p.m. – Call to Order; Go into Executive Session
  • 6 p.m. – Reconvene in Open Session
  • 6:15 p.m. – Board Recognition for students/staff
  • 6:30 p.m. or later (immediately following board recognition) – Public Comment

After the public comment portion of the meeting, trustees will proceed with the meeting agenda which includes hearings (if scheduled), consent agenda, regular agenda and administrative reports.

“Making these small changes to the meeting format will yield huge dividends. The public comment period will be moved later in the evening which should be easier for citizens to attend. The meetings should also flow more smoothly from section to section. We will still place a high priority on celebrating student achievement during Board Recognition,” Charles Gooden Jr., board president, said. “This action also supports the District’s third strategic goal: Developing a communication system that fosters trust and builds unity across the community. I thank the Board for the thoughtful discussion that led to an excellent decision.”

Trustees also agreed that fourth Tuesday of each month from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. would be reserved for board workshops, as needed.
