Business Office wins TASBO award for excellence in financial management

The Pearland Independent School District Business Office recently landed statewide recognition with the Award of Excellence in Financial Management presented by Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO).

Presented to a select group of ten districts in the state, this new program recognizes Texas school districts that have implemented professional standards, best practices and innovations in financial reporting.

TASBO Accounting Subcommittee developed the criteria for the award based on state and federal guidelines. Each applicant submitted documentation on 11 areas: finance department essentials, staffing and training, controls, budget management, processes, cash management, communications, financial reports, financial analyses and projections, external staff training and innovation.

“It is an honor to be amongst the first 10 school districts in Texas to receive this award as proof of our commitment to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars,” Jorgannie Carter, Pearland ISD Chief Financial Officer, said. “I am very proud of my team who works hard to continually improve business processes and put practices in place that exceed minimum standards.”
