Dr. Nixon named Pearland ISD's Assistant Superintendent of Special Programs

Dr. Lisa Nixon      Pearland Independent School District welcomes Dr. Lisa Nixon as its new Assistant Superintendent of Special Programs.

      With 29 years of experience serving in education, Dr. Nixon has dedicated 17 of those to Pearland ISD. She spent the first 11 years of her career in the classroom, as a math teacher in La Port and Clear Creek ISDs. Since then, she served as an Assistant Principal at Victory Lakes Intermediate (CCISD), Pearland Ninth Grade Center and Pearland High School for a total of three years, and then as a principal at Carleston Elementary and Sablatura Middle School. Subsequently, Dr. Nixon served as the Director of Testing & Program Evaluation and the Executive Director of Special Programs for nine combined years. Dr. Nixon also served as an Adjunct Professor at University of Houston Clear Lake in 2013-14 and a Field Supervisor – Educational Leadership Department at Lamar University in 2016-18.

      “My vision is one where the focus is always on doing what is best for our students. This means being committed to providing the academic, behavioral, social and emotional support our students need in order to reach their greatest potential,” Dr. Nixon said. “This also means supporting our teachers, school staff and families. The success of our students depends on our ability to work together, and I’m looking forward to this new opportunity.”     

      Dr. Nixon holds a doctorate degree in educational leadership and a master’s degree in educational management, both from University of Houston - Clear Lake, as well as a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from University of Houston - University Park. Dr. Nixon believes in working collaboratively with educators, students and parents to build positive outcomes for students.

      “Malala Yousafzai said, ‘let us remember: one book, one pen, one child and one teacher can change the world.’ My goal will be to provide the resources and support needed to allow this to occur throughout the district as we strive to provide a world-class education to the students we serve,” Dr. Nixon said.

      As Pearland ISD’s Assistant Superintendent of Special Programs, Dr. Nixon looks forward to the opportunity to work with district leaders as they strive to meet the needs of all learners and the families served by Pearland ISD.
