Dr. Vaughn named Executive Director of Intermediate Schools

Dr. La'Kesha Henson-Vaughn      Pearland Independent School District welcomes Dr. La'Kesha Henson-Vaughn as its Executive Director of Intermediate Schools.

In her most recent role, Dr. Vaughn served as Pearland ISD’s Director Early Childhood Education, helping launch the district’s full day pre-kindergarten program in the fall of 2020, offered every elementary campus to qualifying students. Prior to that, she served as Rogers Middle School principal for five years and has been with Pearland ISD serving in several roles for over 16 years. She comes from a family with an extensive background as educators, with her grandmother, mother and great aunt being in education for 41, 32 and 45 years, respectively.

She dedicated her first years in education to teaching second and fourth grades at Giesinger Elementary in Conroe ISD. Upon coming to Pearland, Dr. Vaughn served as a third grade teacher before moving into assistant principal and principal roles at Sablatura Middle School and Silverlake Elementary.

“My vision is to continue the excellence and great accomplishments of our middle and junior high campuses in Pearland ISD. I will help and work alongside campus principals to prepare all students to experience success and reach their full potential,” Dr. Vaughn said. “We will work as a team to help our students through their adolescent years and develop a well-round student socially, emotionally and in academics. Although these years can seem like some of the most challenging years in a student’s life, it is the most rewarding to see them start their metamorphosis in becoming a high school student that is well-rounded, confident and responsible.”

Dr. Vaughn holds a doctorate degree in educational leadership from Prairie View A&M University, a master’s degree in educational administration and a bachelor’s degree in academic studies, both from Sam Houston State University.

“I look forward to helping establish world-class campuses and a world-class district, by determining district goals and implementing new incentives, planning educational programs and aiding in the management of teachers, curriculum development, professional development programs and data analysis,” Dr. Vaughn said. “I also look forward to actively supporting our middle and junior high principals as well as helping mentor and develop assistant principals and other administrators in the district to become future leaders who can translate vision into reality.”
