DHS Wind Ensemble Advances to State Honor Band Competition
The Dawson High School wind ensemble is advancing to the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) state honor band competition in July after sweeping regional and area competitions.
The varsity band, directed by Aaron Brown, finished first out of nine bands competing at the area contest. The competition, which began in the spring, will conclude with TMEA selecting state honor bands for UIL classes 1A, 3A and 5A.
“Their rankings from the five judges were 11121. This is a very decisive win poising DHS for a strong finish at the State Contest in San Antonio on July 21,” Tom Bell, Pearland Independent School District fine arts director said.
Approximately 16 bands will compete at the State Contest. The winner will perform at the February 2023 TMEA convention.
