District hosts livestock show highlighting student partnerships
Pearland Independent School District proudly presents the fourth Pearland Partner Livestock Show to be held on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 6 p.m. at Richard L. Wagoner Agricultural Facility at 4715 Bailey Road, Pearland, TX 77584.
The fourth Pearland Partners Show will include more than 50 students from Turner, Dawson, Pearland high schools. The event creates an opportunity for students to be paired with and mentored by Pearland ISD Future Farmers of America (FFA) students. This youth-teaching-youth initiative has allowed students to learn how to properly care, groom, manage and feed animals including pigs, sheep and goats, culminating in a show where students exhibit animals in front of judges, peers, teachers, administrators and the Pearland community.
The first Partner Livestock Show was initiated by FFA student and high school senior Jaden Cole under the guidance of Hunter Morgan, Pearland ISD’s Agriculture department head.
The event is an opportunity for students to not only work with animals in the FFA environment, but to also interact with some of Pearland ISD’s outstanding student mentors.
“I am really excited about this event and for the amazing opportunity it represents for students with different abilities to work together with shared interests – students learning from students,” Pearland ISD Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Dr. Lisa Nixon, said.
