District teacher named a finalist in the Region 4 Teacher of the Year awards program
Pearland Independent School District teacher Caren Wonders was recently selected as a finalist to represent the district in the annual Region 4 Teachers of the Year Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Aug. 7.
A Health Science Technology (HST) teacher at Robert Turner College and Career High School, Wonders was selected as a regional secondary Teacher of the Year finalist by a panel of judges composed primarily of members of various teacher associations. Every fall, 40 Regional Teachers of the Year are selected — one elementary and one secondary teacher from each of the 20 Education Service Center regions in Texas.
Wonders holds a bachelor’s degree in education with an emphasis in kinesiology from Lamar University and is a licensed athletic trainer and a national certified insurance coding specialist.
In her five years at TCCHS from a total of 18 in education, Wonders has played a significant role in the growth of the HST program into a successful pathway, which offers multiple certification options and career opportunities for its students. Witnessing her students receive new opportunities is what keeps Wonders motivated.
“I am humbled and honored to be considered as a finalist among so many great teachers in our region,” Wonders said. “I feel blessed to represent Pearland ISD and especially the students, staff and my colleagues at Turner CCHS.”
If selected on Aug. 7, Wonders will advance to the Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year awards program.
