Pearland Independent School District welcomed 111 teachers during the new teacher orientation kick-off on Aug. 5.
To greet the incoming educators and help them feel at home, the district hosted a breakfast and luncheon and provided goody bags with coupons, special offers and giveaways as a thank-you for serving Pearland ISD students.
Breakfast was generously sponsored by the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE), while Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union and the Pearland ISD Education Foundation sponsored the luncheon.
On the second day of orientation, National Life Group and Texas Teachers sponsored breakfast, and the Pearland ISD Curriculum & Instruction Department sponsored lunch for new teachers.
Goody bags were provided by local organizations and businesses and contained over $200 worth of giveaways and coupons for new teachers.
Speakers during the new teacher breakfast and luncheon included Pearland ISD Board of Trustees’ president Charles Gooden, Jr., Mayor Tom Reid and Superintendent Dr. John Kelly.
In his welcome address, Kelly shared inspiring words to motivate teachers to deliver world-class education to students.
“In Pearland ISD, world-class isn’t a title we confer on ourselves, but rather a goal we strive toward. This school year, you will carry on this world-class vision by helping our students develop what we like to call “grit” -- passion and perseverance for long-term goals,” he said.
