Hayes, Dr. Allen named 2019 Principals of the Year

2019 Principals of the Year        Principals Brad Hayes and Dr. Charles Allen are passionate administrators who strive to create a safe space for students and staff to grow and learn every day.

Pearland Independent School District named Alexander Middle School’s Brad Hayes and Pearland Junior High East’s Dr. Charles Allen as the 2019 Elementary and Secondary Principals of the Year, respectively.

Dr. Charles Allen, Pearland Junior High East

Dr. Charles Allen recently completed his third year as a principal at Pearland Junior High East. After starting his career in Pearland ISD as a teacher and coach, he spent seven years as an assistant principal at PACE Center, Searcy Ninth Grade Center and Berry Miller Junior High.

Before his career in education, Dr. Allen served six years in the U.S. Air Force as a combat weather forecaster, completing tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.

“My vision is for PJH East to be a place of growth for every student that enters our doors daily, regardless of their backgrounds or current situations. I’m blessed to work with teachers and staff that have that same mindset,” Dr. Allen said.

Dr. Allen has a doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Teaching from the University of Houston, a master’s degree in Educational Management from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from University of Phoenix and an associate’s degree in Weather Technology from Community College of the Air Force.

“Every principal at Pearland ISD gets up every day attempting to make the best decisions possible for each child in their building,” he said. “I’m motivated by the important role that I play in ensuring that PJH East is a safe place for students to not only learn the curriculum but to also grow in the values of truth, honor and integrity. It takes an entire campus to be effective, but as the principal, I understand that my leadership is what drives our success and I do not take that for granted.”

       Brad Hayes, Alexander Middle School

Brad Hayes just recently completed his second year as a principal at Alexander Middle School and has served in education in several roles.

As a principal, he strives to create a campus that students, teachers and staff love.

“My vision is of a campus in which students feel connected to their peers and teachers and the faculty truly feels like this is a work family,” Hayes said. “It is of a campus of mutual respect in which our school community works hand in hand with parents to provide the best educational experience for their child.”

Hayes began his career in education in Galveston ISD as a science teacher in 2002 and held several administrative positions in Cleveland and Clear Creek ISDs, being in education for a total of 17 years. He stays motivated by knowing the effort put in to teaching kids every day makes a difference.

“My goal is to build kids up so that when they leave our school, they know that they can do anything they set their minds to. I want them to know that there is nothing that will stand between them and their dreams. Knowing that we have that opportunity to inspire kids every day keeps me motivated,” he said.

Hayes has a master’s degree in Education Administration and a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, both from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

“Ultimately, principals want to do what is best for kids with every decision we make. We go into education because we want to inspire kids to reach their goals. We want to accomplish this through a collaborative effort with families and I truly believe that when this happens, we can have our kids achieve anything,” he said.
