Can non-district transfer students who attend our schools be sent elsewhere to eliminate overcrowding at Dawson High School?

Yes. Several years ago, Pearland ISD declared Dawson High School closed to non-district transfer students. These students may apply for transfer only to campuses with enough room to accommodate them.

While adding students increases a district’s state funding, it does not benefit a school near capacity. DHS has already exceeded capacity, and Turner College and Career High School is fewer than 100 students from capacity.

With each year, Pearland ISD’s number of open-enrollment schools decreases. As a result, the district has increased portable classrooms district-wide. This year alone, DHS had 16 portable classrooms added to accommodate excess enrollment.
